Janice
The chemotherapy starts tomorrow. They told Janice “plan on loosing your hair”. After chemotherapy, then radiation. After that, there’s a 70% chance the cancer won’t come back. Pray.

Photo Expo 2008
To any photographers that may read my blog, I’m wondering if you are going to Photo Expo this year. If so, let me know and let’s meet up.
What is Photo Expo? Here it is from their website:
PDN PhotoPlus continues to be on the cutting edge of what’s happening in photography and imaging. Since 1983 we’ve put on the leading show in the industry – attracting all the exhibitors you want to see, and the industry names you want to network with!
Utah Engagement Pictures – Jake and Julia
These engagement pictures were taken in Provo Canyon. I love that place. Here’s a slideshow if you want to see more pictures.

Clark Family Pictures – Provo Utah

I love these guys. Chris and Lisa have five kids and can you believe they are somehow able to fit all of them in a Corolla? Just kidding. They have a mini-van.
See a two minute slideshow here.
Wedding in Sandy, UT – Karen + Aaron
Would you like to laugh, have a good time, and feel like everything’s going to be just right? Then hang around Karen and Aaron for a while. And I think you’ll get a sense of that when you check out their wedding pictures. As I’ve been going through the editing process, I couldn’t help but smile. Karen is laughing and having a good time in nearly every picture I took of her. Listen, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love my job.

“We love to make you sexy” as they say.
There’s a slogan at the Metropolitan Salon in Provo. They say, “We love to make you sexy”. Holy smoke. They’re not just kidding around. Here’s a sample showing some of Mike’s work, shot today at my studio. Meow.

And the genius behind it all, Mister Mike Kowallis.

America’s Next Top Model
Melanie needed something fast. By fast, I mean, she came in at 1pm and was getting on a plane to L.A. at 5pm. She needed to be photographed first, then needed to get some prints made because she was going to California for her second try-out on America’s Next Top Model.
The first try-out was held in Salt Lake. She called got back. That’s when we get to the part of the story where she showed up at my studio four hours before she was leaving for L.A. No problem Melanie. I’ve got you covered. And speaking of covered—note to my mother: yes, she is wearing clothes in this picture.

Tisha + Travis – Thanksgiving Point Wedding
Sure, she grew up here, but she had moved to California and started working as an actress. She just happened to be back in Utah to film a movie. He managed the club where the movie was being filmed. She vowed she’d never move back here. Ah…that was because she didn’t realize how charming Travis could be. Ladies and gentlemen–Travis and Tisha. Two minute slideshow here.

The Venue: Thanksgiving Point
Idaho wedding – Jason and Jenna
If you drive an hour north of Sun Valley in the central mountains of Idaho, you’ll pass Dooley Creek and climb Galena pass, then level off at 7,000 feet about five miles before you get to Stanley. Now, turn off Highway 75 and head west to Red Fish Lake. If you ask the local folks at the lodge about the weather they’ll tell you it can snow up there any day of the year.
So when you leave your cabin at 5:55am on September 1st for a sunrise wedding, that’s when you notice you’ll be shooting in a blizzard.
But that’s not where the story begins. The story starts when Jason and Jenna are in high school. Back when Jason and his buddy thought it would be funny to sneak into Jenna’s house and put on her clothes while she was sleeping. Imagine how that looked when Jenna’s mother came in. That’s the first time she had ever met Jason. Oh, sure, they laugh about it now…
A few years later, he was living in San Fransisco and she was living in Boise. Their folks both say it was the Lord that got them back together. The engagement was speedy, and on September 1st, 2008, in the Central Mountains of Idaho, Jenna and Jason got married in a snow storm. It was, on all accounts, beautiful.
You can see a three minute slide show of their wedding here.

Photography Lesson
By a long shot, the person most responsible for my development as a photographer is Kent Miles. Here’s something great I learned from Kent.
“You can never see what’s behind you by looking twice as hard at what’s in front of you”.
In other words, move around. Look past the obvious. And the best picture might be right behind you.
