I saw this on A Photo Editor’s blog this morning. Any other photographers feel the same way?
“You put a camera in my hand, I want to get close to people,” he said. “Not just physically close, emotionally close, all of it. It’s part of the process.”
“It’s a very weird thing being a photographer.”

It’s been said many times, “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re probably not close enough.” I suppose that means “close enough” physically and emotionally. I think we see by the quality of your work, Justin, that you consistently achieve both.
Thanks, Brett. That’s very cool of you to say so.
What I think must be cool about being a photographer (and it’s sort of related to this issue of “getting close” to get a picture) is that sometimes–not always but sometimes–what you get is a picture of a person liking you. That’s a pretty neat job.
a friend of mine pointed out to me that artists are the easiest to photograph because they don’t mind staring eye to eye as you take the time to figure out the very best way to photograph them. you can’t photograph emotion if you’re hiding yourself.
Absolutely! I’m only a budding photographer, and that’s exactly how I feel
