Ideally, I’d have my camera with me at all times. But that’s not always the case. Like, at church, for example. Who takes a camera to church? So that’s why I’m so darn glad I have a camera on my phone, because I take that sucker with me everywhere I go (including church). Oh, sure, it can’t solve all my artistic problems (or hardly any of them) but when I’m in a pinch, it will do the trick.
Sometimes I use it just to take a picture of something I want to remember later, like the giant banner at the fabric store stating “Not going out of business” (hilarious) and sometimes I use it to see things differently than I would if I was looking through my regular camera’s viewfinder.
So here you go. All of these were taken with my camera phone and this slide show is just a bit longer than 2 minutes. Enjoy!
Good pictures are made in the head and the heart, not in the camera. If you are interested in improving your camera skills but just aren’t sure how to go about that, or if you’re already making pictures you like, but know there’s room for improvement, or if you just want to shake up what you’re currently doing, then you may be interested in taking an online class I’m teaching on March 27, 2012 called “10 photo workouts to make you a better photographer” as part of the Alt Design Summit’s online channel. You can read more and sign up here. Space is limited.

When are you going to put together a “How to make you’re camera phone pictures feel like they were shot with an SLR” class, cuz you, my friend, know how to do it. What a lovely Sunday afternoon slideshow on this lovely Sunday afternoon.
Thanks, Brett.
loved.
i love these photos. glimpses of everyday life made extraordinary are my favorite. i love the one of amy w/snoop and the one of amy before that one. and the wall of condoms. and well, mostly all of them.
Holy cow, this was just awesome. I loved these pictures and I agree with Bret about showing us how to make the pictures look so good. I can’t even believe these were camera shots. BTW, I just listened to that song this morning while fixing breakfast. What a great song. And, it fits perfect with these delightful pictures.
OOPS, I mean camera shots from a phone…I hit the submit button way too soon.
Guess what. I’m your student.
Fantastic, Georgia. It’ll be great fun!
I’m looking forward to today’s class! I just have to check the time zones.
Ha, it will be 3 am in Budapest. Better be fun…
Justin, I, like everyone else, cannot believe these are from a camera phone. I’m going to use mine now. Before I just thought, eh, it’s a piece of crap phone. You have changed my mind, my friend (thanks for the great class tonight, btw!).
This was so great! I have to admit, I mostly looked at it to see if the sign at the fabric store was where I thought it was (and it was) because I thought for a whole year that the fabric store in question was going out of business. Finally, I went in, because I realized it in fact, was not.
These are all so lovely! I love your play with shadows, in particular.
I was wondering if I could get the name and the artist of song in the background….
The song is from an awesome LA band called the Leftover Cuties.
I love your work and your attitude. I think you are my favorite photographer of all that I follow online.
I’m taking this Friday’s online class. Will I have a chance to ask you a question, there? I’m panicking b/c I invested in a new camera body (Canon 7D) and lens (Canon 24-70mm USM L series f/2.8) b/c my images are NOT coming out tack sharp. They are good but not great. I have a unique opportunity to shoot a COVER for a local, prestigious magazine and I’m scared.
My pictures need to be perfect. I’m an amateur photographer with growing skills and if I knew what I could do to make sure the images were sharp I wouldn’t worry. When I shoot video with the camera and lens, it’s fine. It’s just that the images are NOT what I expect from this lens and camera. I called B & H and because I’m outside the 30 days they suggested the brick wall test. Sigh. Is it possible the calibration is off? This is not why I signed up for the class – all of this became apparent after I registered. I haven’t played around too much with it since buying it in Feb.
Anyway. You’re so talented, and I’m really looking forward to the ’10 Tips’ class.
I don’t use my camera phone enough. This post just inspired me to use it more. I can’t write much more because I have to get out shooting my phone. No time to waste.
