If you were in college and living in Provo back in, say, 1993, then there’s a pretty good chance you went to Mama’s Cafe. It was, at the time, one of the few places in town where live music was played and it was owned by a guy that knew everyone: Mr. Johnny Rowan. The last time I saw Johnny was way back then, at Mama’s Cafe, where my friend Garrett and I played a set of cover songs that ranged from the Counting Crows to Lou Reed.
So it’s been a while since I’ve seen Johnny, so I was thrilled when he called and asked me to photograph his family.
