Portraits for Koo De Ker

by justin on March 8, 2012

in Editorial/Advertising

The coolest clothing store for women in the whole state of Utah is Koo De Ker in Salt Lake. If you’re a girl, you’ll walk in and want one of everything in that store. If you’re a guy and you walk in there you’ll want one of everything for your wife.

Located at 1037 East 900 South – SLC. Go there, and then thank me later.

Big thanks to Noel who stepped in to model with very short notice and acted like the chilly temperatures were no big deal.

Robb always has his hand in some kind of pie. His latest: Buck Hard. Cool clothes for cowboys. Listening to Robb talk about his vision for his newest company, you can’t help but get excited. He’s talking sports drinks, iPhone apps, you name it. But it’s early, still, so for now it’s t-shirts.

Robb and Lisa, with the company’s latest offerings, were photographed in Midway, Utah.

Here are some things we photographed for The Modbod last week. We drove to a fancy house in Alpine and waited until the evening light was just perfect. Wait for it…Wait for it….There it is. Quick, stand on that pile of rocks and look this way! Oh, yea. That’s hot. But in a modest way.

I nearly jumped for joy that I got to photograph Kari Hawker again. She was so fun to be around the last time and she’s easy on the eyes, as they say. (I don’t think I’ve ever said “easy on the eyes” before). We also used Megan Beckham and she was just about about as pleasant as can be. Thanks ladies, for making my job easy and fun and easy but mostly fun.

As if that didn’t make the night pleasant enough, makeup was done by the over the moon fabulous Enizio Salon. I mean seriously. I love Enizio Salon. (Quick sidenote. Enizio Salon is one of our generous sponsors for the 30 Strangers exhibit. Yep. They rock it).

Seraph Bags

by justin on January 9, 2009

in Editorial/Advertising

Seraph Stationery’s latest product: Cool bags. For a short time, they are $40 on their site. Soon they’ll be $60, so snatch some up now while the price is low. I love the description that’s on their website for these:

It’s a bag. It’s awesome. It’s made of comfortable materials. You can put whatever you want in it as long as it’s smaller than the bag.

Here’s where you can get one for you, one for your roommate, and one for your lover:

Seraph Stationery printed my business cards. People love them. No surprise–they were printed by Seraph. Everything they do is fabulous. Here’s their main site:

These photographs were made in that great window light in my office. I  do love that window and I love that light. Thanks, Emily, for coming on such short notice to be photographed.

Platon

by justin on October 31, 2008

in Editorial/Advertising,Photographers

Maybe you don’t recognize Platon’s name, but it’d be hard to miss his photographs, as they have appeared in Time, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Premiere, Wired and others.

I’ve recently posted some details about my time in New York, but the most fabulous part of my whole week in New York was getting to hear Platon speak about his work and life. (Read what PDN had to say about it).

Platon showed his work and talked about what it took to make the pictures of Larry King, David Beckham, Heath Ledger, Martin Scorsese, Rupert Murdoch, Christopher Walken, Sheryl Crow, Benicio Del Toro, Pam Anderson, Neil Young, Donald Trump, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dr. Dre, Jim Lehrer, Willie Nelson, Jude Law, Elliot Spitzer, Michael Moore, Blondie, Kirk Douglas, James Carville, Spike Lee, Bono, Yoko Ono, Al Gore, Susan Sarandon, Matt Damon, Sylvester Stalone, Mos Def, Edward Norton, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and many, many more.

He said he always asks the subject, “What’s your mantra?” It was great to hear him talk about the wisdom these people left with him after he took their picture. In the end, Platon said his mantra is, “Always master the art of living, and then you’ll be free.”

Also, “I’m a believer that everything takes ten years longer than you think it will. Be relentless. There isn’t a secret to success. You have to have talent, but you have to also be relentless. Agression won’t get it. But how much you love it does”.

A Photo Editor – Rob Haggart

by justin on October 31, 2008

in Editorial/Advertising

One of the great industry blogs for professional photographers (mostly magazine, editorial and advertising) is Rob Haggart’s blog. I’ve been reading it for about a year now and love how much information and honesty that he disseminates. If you care about what’s going on in the industry, I suggest you make it a regular stop, too.

It was the last day, last hour of the PhotoPlus Expo when I ran into him. In addition to photography, we talked about other things, like Jackson Hole. He lived there for a while some years back and I once worked the front desk of a hotel there as well as the Cadillac Grill. But mostly we talked about photography.

PhotoPlus Expo is awesome. So is Rob Haggart.

There’s a slogan at the Metropolitan Salon in Provo. They say, “We love to make you sexy”. Holy smoke. They’re not just kidding around. Here’s a sample showing some of Mike’s work, shot today at my studio. Meow.

And the genius behind it all, Mister Mike Kowallis.

Beth is updating her portfolio. She came to the office at 10:00am and said the client needs these images by 11:00am. Wow. That’s ambitious. Good thing I work fast.
