On a beautiful day in June, Laura and Austin got married in Salt Lake City. Later that night in a friend’s backyard, they had their wedding reception that was packed with lovely details, beautiful people, delicious food and dancing.
Here they are, funny and fun, Laura and Austin.

They met in Logan. They had friends in common. Now, they’re getting married, and that’s how it works sometimes. So we got together in Salt Lake and we took some engagement pictures.
Meet Jessica and Paxton.

I’m so excited to have Whitney and Richard’s gorgeous wedding featured on The Knotty Bride. I love Alison’s blog because she’s funny and a great writer in addition to being a great photo editor. Those are three great skills that not every wedding blogger possesses. Three cheers for the Knotty Bride, and three cheers for Whitney for having such great taste in wedding details. Her wedding was both fun and beautiful. Looking at these pictures makes me want summer to be here, now.
In other news, the 30 Strangers project begins on Friday. Holy smokes I’m excited for that. I can’t wait to get going on it. I’ve been meeting with one of the coolest people I’ve ever met, a mister Stephen Martin, who is helping me with the P.R. for this year’s exhibit (currently planned for September). Our plan is to create a bigger event than in previous years so we can raise even more money for the Center for Women and Children in Crisis than we have in previous years. Good things are cooking up.

And I think you’re going to want to take a look at something on Stephanie’s blog.

Aimie and Mathew are getting married at Alta this summer. So you might be asking yourself how they met. Fun story. They are both studying engineering in Austin, Texas and both were teacher’s assistants for the same class. Glances, giggles, flirting…you know how it goes. Next thing you know, there’s some chemistry in the engineering department.
So now there are some things to do before the wedding. One of those things is to get engagement pictures taken. We met downtown Salt Lake when they were both in town for Christmas. It was so much fun, we didn’t even get cold. Well, I didn’t.
Now, meet Aimie and Matt.

Rachel and Ken got married in Los Angeles, flew to Tahiti for a honeymoon, then had an open house in Alpine, Utah. That’s a pretty good week, if you ask me.
I was on hand to photograph the happy event in Alpine.

I like the way the Mattingly’s throw a wedding party. Bright, colorful, fun with plenty of attention paid to getting the details just so. Richard and Whitney got married this summer in the Salt Lake temple and had their reception in Whitney’s parents backyard. Perfectly charming.

Jessica and Jared got married in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Point just above the campus of the University of Utah. They’ve known each other since high school (he was in love with her/she had a different boyfriend), but they didn’t start getting all lovey-dovey until a few years after that.
But get this: One day Jessica’s mom asked what Jared’s last name was. Jessica said it was Bybee. Jessica’s mom was a little bit in shock. See, a few years earlier, Jared’s father, a brain surgeon, saved Jessica’s dad’s life when he was rushed to the hospital with some trouble with his brain. Now, their kids are married.
Meet Jessica and Jared.

Britt lives in Logan, Utah. I met her for the first time a few weeks ago when she came to the 30 Strangers exhibit. Her sister Alison was one of the strangers (day 14) so they all came to check it out.
And now Britt’s getting married. First step, bridal portraits. After we talked for a little while at the studio, we walked around downtown Provo just to see what we could see and to be open to the possibilities and the idea of chance in art.
Meet Britt.

On one of the best days in May, Rebecca and Jason got married in the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City. She looked beautiful, he looked handsome–all of that. But my favorite part of the wedding day was later that evening at the reception. Rebecca’s sister had written a song about them and sang it that night. So that was moving and wonderful and if she’s smart, she’ll record that sucker. And then Rebecca sang a song she had written for Jason. And you better believe she had some of those folks in tears. A perfect day.

We have our winner for our third engagement session giveaway. It’s Natalie, who entered for her cousin. She said they just got engaged last week. Ahhhh, young love. On Monday, we’ll post our 4th and final engagement session giveaway. I hope you win. I really do.
But even if you don’t win and you’re getting engaged, you’d still be wise to hire me to shoot your engagement pictures and photograph your wedding. Of course I’ll tell you that, but here’s what others have to say about it. Here are two emails I got last night. These arrived 20 minutes apart.
Here’s the first one:
These pictures are amazing. I am in love with every single one! Thank you doesn’t even begin. I feel so very blessed to have had the opportunity to meet you and to have pictures done. You just can’t imagine what it means to me. Really, thank you.
Then, twenty minutes later:
I met you last year again at the Grand America Bridal Show. I can’t tell you how much I regret not hiring you to be our photographer. But that’s a story for another day.
There’s a pattern here. People that hire me are over-the-moon happy they did so. People that didn’t hire me later regret that decision. It’s your wedding day, after all. You deserve fantastic photography. So call me. I’d love to hear about your wedding and find out how I can provide you with beautiful wedding photographs–the kind you’ll actually want to show off to your friends, not hide away in a box. Believe me. You won’t regret it.

I’m very excited to announce a photography project for the brides of 2010. If you’re getting married, or you know someone who is, may I have your attention, please? I have an announcement.
It’s called Love’s First Year, my latest photography project. I love to photograph weddings. I love recording authentic moments as they unfold. What I really love about this, and the thing that compels me to be a photographer, is the chance to record history. Record life. This project is about making those kinds of images I love, and creating a record of your happy beginning.
For the next 10 brides who choose Justin Hackworth Photography, I will photograph you and your spouse five times over the course of your first year. Think about the moments that will mark your first year of marriage–time at home, time with friends, out on the town–and imagine having stunning images of those events. At the end of your blissful first year, you’ll receive a fine art book with images from your five sessions. I dare say it may become a family treasure.
And the news keeps getting better. If you’re one of the next ten brides, not only will you have professional photos that document your life together, but Love’s First Year is included in your wedding package.

On the night before Jeannie and Julian got married, they gathered with friends and family at their favorite restaurant in Park City, Utah. Since they live in Park City, they know all the best places and chose to celebrate at 350 Main.
After dinner, Jeannie’s father told everyone about Jeannie and Julian’s first date. The date didn’t go so well. But their second date was a hit. And on that night, they made an apple pie together. And so, on the night before the wedding, and to celebrate love and first dates and second dates, apple pie was served to all the guests for dessert.

p.s. 350 Main gave me the best steak I’ve ever eaten. Cooked meat, yum yum.

Mariah and Dan got married in Salt Lake City at La Caille. It’s fancy. Now, when I photograph a wedding, I’m normally there for the whole event. Getting ready, the ceremony, dinner, dance and the see-you-later part. But if you want me there for just the ceremony and dinner, I’ll do that too. That’s what I did for Mariah and it turned out just dandy.

On the night before Ben and Naomi got married, they had a dinner for family and friends. The night started with big sun. Then, dark clouds, then rain. But wait for it, wait for it. Ah, there it is: the sun.
A great night.

One of the finest places in Utah to have a wedding is Log Haven. That’s where Tom and Katie decided to get hitched in June. For me, one of the highlights was during the ceremony, Tom’s grandfather recited a poem by Pablo Neruda. Tears all around.

Our 30 Strangers project is well under way and we’re a third done. But what to do about all those people that still wanted to participate after the 30 spots were filled? Well, we came up with a great plan and a super deal. If you want to know what it is, email me and I’ll tell you all about it. That’s what Natalie did.

Later, Megan’s sisters showed up and I took pictures of the whole group. Amongst themselves there was some catching up to do, of course, so the conversation included this gem.
One sister: Today my son ate two of my birth control pills. He’s fine. The lady at poison control said he could eat the whole pack and all he’d get is a stomach ache.
I love my job.

Our 30 Strangers project is well under way and I love the way it’s going so far. But what to do about all those people that still wanted to participate after the 30 spots were filled? Well, we came up with a great plan and a super deal. If you want to know what it is, email me and I’ll tell you all about it. That’s what Leah did. And I was so glad she did, too, because a while ago I found her great blog and since then, I’ve been wanting to meet her. I love it when stuff like that happens. Thanks for coming in, Leah.

It was a beautiful and small wedding. Sixteen people total. That includes the bride and groom, the guests, and the little boy carrying the ring. Eighteen people in all if you count the bishop and the photographer. By the way, the last picture shown in this post may be my favorite group shot I’ve ever taken at a wedding.
The event took place in Salt Lake City at Heritage Gardens.
Here’s a slideshow of more of their wedding pictures.

Here were my two favorite things about Rachel and Micah’s wedding day in Salt Lake City. I loved the speeches from her parents, and I loved hearing Micah play the violin, accompanied by Rachel. My other two favorite things were hearing Hannah sing and watching their slideshow. Rachel and Micah are so classy and refined and I’m really happy to have been there.

Would you like to laugh, have a good time, and feel like everything’s going to be just right? Then hang around Karen and Aaron for a while. And I think you’ll get a sense of that when you check out their wedding pictures. As I’ve been going through the editing process, I couldn’t help but smile. Karen is laughing and having a good time in nearly every picture I took of her. Listen, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love my job.

Back when we made these bridal portraits for Lindsay I only posted one close-up. She didn’t want Whitney to see the dress until the big day. Well, now that the wedding has passed, I’m posting some of my favorites. Enjoy.
