On a beautiful day in June, Laura and Austin got married in Salt Lake City. Later that night in a friend’s backyard, they had their wedding reception that was packed with lovely details, beautiful people, delicious food and dancing.
Here they are, funny and fun, Laura and Austin.

Marin and Drew got married in Alabama and then had a lovely reception in Provo. Here are photographs from their wedding reception. But first, a quick side-note. I photographed Drew’s (the groom) brother’s wedding a while ago. I’d link to it on this blog, but it was in 2003 and I didn’t have a blog then. I’m talking about Amanda and Cubby. Amanda’s not only a great photographer and one of my favorites, but she’s also a florist along with her twin sister Chealsea, who is an amazing painter. They did the flowers for Marin and Drew. Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap. Great job, Amanda and Chelsea.
And now, meet Marin and Drew.

Kiersten’s getting married today and I’ll be there to photograph all the happy moments as they unfold. Here she is, earlier this month, when I photographed her bridal portraits.
We met at the Homestead in Midway. That’s when I met her, her mother, her sister, and her sister in law. Then we drove a few minutes up the road to Huber Grove in Wasatch State Park.
I’m really excited to photograph the wedding reception. It’s at a place on Deer Creek called The Dock of the Bay. I’ve never photographed a wedding there before and I think it’s going to be gorgeous.
Hooray for love!

Kellee’s getting married in Salt Lake City today and I am honored to be photographing the event. Kellee is friends with Rebecca, who is awesome (I shot her wedding last year) and that’s how Kellee heard about me. We invited Kellee to Blushing this spring where we gave away an engagement session and she won! She asked if I would instead make bridal portraits for her. Deal. Part of the giveaway also included hair and make-up from Flavia at Versa Artistry who did an amazing job. If you’re getting married and looking for such things, I highly recommend Flavia.
By the time you read this, all the crummy Provo weather we’ve had this spring will be long forgotten and you’ll already be wearing a tank top and flip-flops, mixing up a delicious jug of lemonade. But on the day these pictures were taken, it was rainy and cold. That’s one of the advantages of having a studio. Rain or shine, the light in there is always gorgeous.
Speaking of gorgeous, meet Kellee.

You’re getting married, too, and fine photography is a priority? Call me.
Brian and Abi had their wedding reception at the White Willow in Provo, Utah, then got married the following day at the Mount Timpanogos Temple. And I was there to photograph these love birds.

Justin Hackworth photographs weddings in Utah or anywhere there’s a bride and groom and he wants to photograph you. Getting married? We should talk.
The finest place in Utah for weddings gowns is Alta Moda. There’s no secret there. And every so often they have a party for wedding vendors. You know, photographers, florists, DJ’s, divorce lawyers. (Just kidding about the lawyers). So a few days ago I went to their party with my girlfriend who also happens to be my wife. Here’s a picture of us being cute together.

Alta Moda just re-designed their website so you want to check it out here and they even have a few pictures I took of beautiful Lindsay. Their party was great fun and it was good to see all the people I dig, like Melissa, Tim, Jon, Leo, Carol and Cynthia, and I was able to meet three photographers who I’ve been dying to meet–Kate, Rebekah, and Stacy. Good times and fancy cheese. And Micah from the Gatsbys was there handing out his demo CD which Amy and I listened to on the way home and danced a funky dance in the car. Want your next function to be awesome? Hire the Gatsbys. If you came to our Christmas party you might recall that’s who we were lucky enough to have play for us.
Thanks, Hilary for the good times. You are a dream.

Here’s Alison and Riley. Their wedding is in Texas and I was lucky enough to photograph them in Provo before they take off and get married. Thanks for coming by Alison and Riley. I had a great time.

Interested in getting engagement pictures like these that are both artistic and hot for you and the one you love? We should talk.

There’s no sense in getting family pictures as often as you brush your teeth. Once a year will do. Been longer than a year? We should talk. Getting hitched? We do that too.

It was a beautiful and small wedding. Sixteen people total. That includes the bride and groom, the guests, and the little boy carrying the ring. Eighteen people in all if you count the bishop and the photographer. By the way, the last picture shown in this post may be my favorite group shot I’ve ever taken at a wedding.
The event took place in Salt Lake City at Heritage Gardens.
Here’s a slideshow of more of their wedding pictures.

Here were my two favorite things about Rachel and Micah’s wedding day in Salt Lake City. I loved the speeches from her parents, and I loved hearing Micah play the violin, accompanied by Rachel. My other two favorite things were hearing Hannah sing and watching their slideshow. Rachel and Micah are so classy and refined and I’m really happy to have been there.

Christmas is over and I had a great holiday. There was a ham, some presents, laughing, rides on the ATVs, naps, getting out the old family photographs, singing, and telling stories about when we were teeny. No wassle. I don’t know why we didn’t have Wassle. But we’re back home now and it’s back to work. I have two weddings to photograph this week, plus we’re doing another bridal show on Saturday. Busy, busy. Just the way I like it.
I knew when I woke up yesterday that it would be another great day. Turns out, I was right.
Jon Canlas is a pretty big deal. He’s sponsored by Fuji, he publishes his weddings in all the finest wedding publications, and he photographs weddings all over the world. And the amazing thing, is that he’s only 16 years old. Just kidding. He’s older than that.
Yesterday he came to my office and we had a great time talking about why we shoot weddings and what moves us to be photographers. He told me about his process and I told him about mine. (One thing that’s becoming increasing unique about Jon’s route is that he shoots all film). And we talked about the photographers we admire both in the wedding industry and in the commercial world.
I’ve admired Jon’s work for some time now, so it made me so happy to be able to spend a couple hours talking about the craft with someone I respect. Thanks, Jon. I want to have more days like that.

Sure, she grew up here, but she had moved to California and started working as an actress. She just happened to be back in Utah to film a movie. He managed the club where the movie was being filmed. She vowed she’d never move back here. Ah…that was because she didn’t realize how charming Travis could be. Ladies and gentlemen–Travis and Tisha. Two minute slideshow here.

The Venue: Thanksgiving Point
If you drive an hour north of Sun Valley in the central mountains of Idaho, you’ll pass Dooley Creek and climb Galena pass, then level off at 7,000 feet about five miles before you get to Stanley. Now, turn off Highway 75 and head west to Red Fish Lake. If you ask the local folks at the lodge about the weather they’ll tell you it can snow up there any day of the year.
So when you leave your cabin at 5:55am on September 1st for a sunrise wedding, that’s when you notice you’ll be shooting in a blizzard.
But that’s not where the story begins. The story starts when Jason and Jenna are in high school. Back when Jason and his buddy thought it would be funny to sneak into Jenna’s house and put on her clothes while she was sleeping. Imagine how that looked when Jenna’s mother came in. That’s the first time she had ever met Jason. Oh, sure, they laugh about it now…
A few years later, he was living in San Fransisco and she was living in Boise. Their folks both say it was the Lord that got them back together. The engagement was speedy, and on September 1st, 2008, in the Central Mountains of Idaho, Jenna and Jason got married in a snow storm. It was, on all accounts, beautiful.

Janet and Steven got married at the Hidden Valley Country Club. I arrived early and we got in golf carts and drove to some secluded places and took pictures of the two of them before the guests arrived. I loved driving the golf carts. We even saw a deer. I took that as a good omen of good things to come.

You can see a short slide show here.

Here’s Lindsay and Whitney. If these three pictures aren’t enough for you, feel free to check out a teeny slide show here. And let me just say, I can’t wait for Lindsay’s and Whitney’s wedding.
